The Turtles at SDCC 2026
Thursday, July 23 to Sunday, July 26, 2026 (Preview Night Wednesday, July 22), San Diego Convention Center
IDW announced The Last Ronin III and a new writer for the ongoing series at its Friday panel, and toy makers billed exclusives in the weeks before the show.
- IDW announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin III, the third and final chapter of the main Roninverse story, for summer 2027, with Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, the Escorza brothers, Luis Antonio Delgado and Ben Bishop returning. The same announcement moved the flagship TMNT ongoing to Matthew Rosenberg and artist Juann Cabal from issue #25 in January 2027, with Gene Luen Yang finishing his run with issue #24. Entertainment Weekly ran it on July 24, the day of IDW's panel, and Gizmodo reported it as an SDCC announcement on July 25. Gizmodo prints the finale's subtitle as Return to New York, while Entertainment Weekly's text, which we followed, says Return for New York.
- IDW's panel, TMNT: Shellebrating 300 Issues of Turtle Power & The Last Ronin, was billed for Friday, July 24 from 10 to 11 AM PT in Room 25ABC, with Paramount Games Studio's Shawn Kittelsen on the bill to talk about the PlatinumGames Last Ronin video game. Our July 25 story records Kittelsen describing the game at the panel as "a AAA, narrative, third-person action game". We have not checked whether a release date came out of the panel. The game itself was announced on June 5, 2026, when Paramount confirmed PlatinumGames as developer, and no release date had been given then.
- TMNT #300 reached shops on Wednesday, July 22, the day of Preview Night. IDW's booth was number 2729, and its SDCC exclusives included a #300 variant by Chuck U and a Last Ronin: Training Day variant by Attack Peter, per The Beat's July 13 post. A Training Day signing was billed for the booth on Friday, July 24 from 5 to 6 PM. We have not checked for a report of how the signing went.
- NECA showed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures at its booth, including the debut of the 1987 cartoon Ultimate Tempestra and new Fortnite x TMNT figures, according to Toyark's booth gallery posted July 22. NECA said Tempestra is its last figure in the TMNT Cartoon Collection for the foreseeable future. The Sketch Turtles 4-Pack, NECA's billed convention exclusive at $150, is covered in our July 10 story.
- Mondo showed new 1/6 scale TMNT figures, and Mezco showed a new Foot Clan One:12 Collective set, both per Toyark galleries posted July 23. Super7's booth display included Turtles alongside its other licenses, per Toyark. Super7 billed its Glow-in-the-Dark ReAction+ Mutagen Ooze 4-Pack for booth 2343, and Mondo billed its Undercover Turtles Soft Vinyl 4-Pack at $320 for Wednesday, July 22 at 10 AM CT.
- Playmates' two billed Turtles exclusives, the Platinum Shell blind boxes and the Snake Eyes x Leonardo set, were listed for UCC Distributing's booth 5613, and the Snake Eyes x Leonardo figure was also billed at Nickelodeon's booth 4113. Toyark's SDCC round-up, read October 21, links Playmates galleries for Power Rangers only, and we have not found a Toyark gallery of the Playmates Turtles on the floor.
- Nickelodeon billed a sewer lair photo op at booth 4113 and a free outdoor activation at the New Children's Museum. Both come from the press release we reported on July 17, and we have not found a report from the floor on either.
- Mattel holds the master TMNT toy license from 2027. The three Mattel galleries in Toyark's SDCC round-up (Masters of the Universe on Preview Night, more Masters of the Universe images, and WWE and AAA) mention no Turtles, and we have not checked other outlets for a Mattel Turtles showing.
