In the 1987 series, the Turtle Blimp is Donatello’s signature engineering project. He builds it from a salvaged Channel 6 weather balloon and a junkyard hot-water heater. He maintains it. He flies it more than anyone else on the team.

The Blimp’s debut on screen is “Invasion of the Punk Frogs”, S02E04, originally aired October 8, 1988. After the Turtles settle in the lair, the Punk Frogs help Donatello fly it through Florida swamps. From that episode forward, the Blimp appears in roughly half the run of the original 193 episodes, including most of the major Foot-Clan confrontations.
